Shutterstock rips off its contributors. No business ethics whatsoever. They have now decided to pay their contributors 15% of the sale!?!? Can you imagine your manager taking 85% of the money your creativity and hard work produce? Whatever happened to "and 10% for his manager"? If Shutterstock stabs its contributors in the back then I would be very careful in doing any sort of business with them.
Stock content I purchased was stolen from elsewhere and resold to me! My client had requested a unique piece, and after purchasing, it was clear that this was a stolen image. Google Reverse image search found many copies. Nearly embarrassed myself or got myself into legal trouble. It looks like the age old adage is true "you get what you pay for." I can't trust this service. I'll looking elsewhere for original stock content for my clients.

They changed the date of my last month without announcing it: lost 10 images
I strongly agree with all the negative reviews.
Everyone of my 4 best submissions was rejected!!
I felt absolutely insulted! I suspected the site
is some kind of scam.Do not spend your money.
Avoid! Its a total waste of time!
Beware of the automating yearly engagement, cancelling will not stop the monthly payments, you have to pay to call them and they are not responding to emails.
Total scam - Beware- You will get your image but for 1 image it cost us in the end 400$ and they activated automatic renawals for 400$ per month.
Needed and used only one graphic. Signed up to the minimum of 10. Certainly didn't see that I was signing up for 10 per month FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!
SCAM! STAY AWAY!
I signed up for the free trial and was charged $29 for an "Annual Subscription"..sounds like they will only charge you once a year right? Wrong. It is a monthly subscription where you get a "discounted' rate each month for an entire year. There was absolutely no contract mentioned when signing up for the free trial and when I contacted them to cancel it, they told me I had to pay the difference in the discount that I received for the "Annual Subscription" and I need to pay an additional $40 to cancel this. I would give this company -100 stars if I could. Never have I ever encountered a company this sneaky, It is straight up thievery!
There is a 'adjustment fee' if you cancel your subscription. They are going to bill me $80 for canceling.
Daylight robbery!
I noticed I had a debit order going off for a shutterstock account for the past 5 months..... When I tried cancelling it, they told me I will need to pay an additional fee. After explaining to their customer service representative, who was shocking, to say the least, about my frustration trying to get my subscription cancelled, he hung up on me.... So I have to start the process again.......This service is a joke
Signed up for a free trial. Later found out that I automatically had been signed up for an annual plan without any notification. To cancel they attempt to change me 60$. Do not even think about entering their website. You have been warned
What a sneaky bad company stay away they used to be good but I guess something happened because they are evil!!!! I don’t even want to go into it ...I’m so mad my blood pressure is sky high now
By my own admission, I failed to read the fine print but find the profits harvested from contributions to be absolutely woeful. A platform that manages intellectual/creative content should not be taking 80-90% of sales - I am genuinely disgusted by the business model. Furthermore, I believe Shutterstock to be founded, and driven by a photographer.
My best advice: do not be lured into submitting content to receive as little as. 10c per sale - it is near robbery, and could not be less supportive of the contributors that the platform feasts on.

It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription.
Example:
$50/month standard rate
$30/month yearly subscription
9 months of usage
$50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
